Why not listen to your own intuitive wisdom?

woman sitting with legs crossed against morning skyAbout a week ago I decided to attend a private workshop session led by a talented alternative health care practitioner. The purpose of the session was to help the practitioner’s clients connect with their deceased loved ones ‘on the other side’. I was intrigued. I had attended a session like this a few years ago, witnessed the positive effect it had on participants back then, and wanted to see what would happen this time. There were about ten people in the room – each with a fascinating story I could relate. However, one important thing stood out for me.

Before the alternative health practitioner began each communication, he would ask his client the name of the deceased loved one and their approximate age when they passed on. This, he said, helps him to confirm the identify of the person. To describe to his clients what it is like to make contact on the other side, he gave the analogy of going to a party or social event held in a darkened room and only being able to vaguely make out the silhouettes of the people in the room. Once he finds the person he seeks, as they approach him he is able to see more of their physical traits and sense their personality. As soon as this happens, with eyes sometimes open sometimes closed, he begins to describe the person ‘on the  other side’ to his client until they confirm the identity of their deceased loved one.

A couple seated beside me, who I will call Janine and Pedro were there to speak to each of their paternal grandfathers. Before her turn, Janine told me that whenever she needs advice she routinely speaks to her grandfather in her mind right before going to sleep. She asks him to join her in her dreams. She says that this technique works for her three quarters of the time. That day, she wanted to ask her grandfather for advice about some problems she was experiencing in her personal life.

“I believe I have found him,” the practitioner said “but he doesn’t seem to speak that much. I keep asking him questions, but he doesn’t always respond.”

Janine smiled and confirmed that he was exactly the same way when he was alive.

“He says that you have a choice to make,” the practitioner told her.

“I know, but can you ask him to give me some advice?” she asked earnestly.

“He says you already know the answer,” was the reply.

She laughed out loud and then leaned over and whispered to me: “That was the same thing he told me in my dream.”

I couldn’t help but notice that Janine would listen intently as other people were communicating with their loved ones on the other side. From time to time she would lean over and whisper a comment or an impression she was receiving about the other person and their loved one. Invariably, Janine’s comments or impressions would be later confirmed. It was clear to me that she had a well-developed intuitive sense that was readily available to her. The question was: why wasn’t she listening to it when it came to her own situation? I can only surmise that she may not have been ready to make a change or act upon her own intuitive information.

What I found interesting is that most participants in the session seemed to think that their deceased loved, now that they had transitioned, would automatically take on the role of protector and Guardian Angel. They seemed to think that now that the person was in spirit form they could somehow ‘pull strings’ for them from the other side.

Based on some of the discussions that took place during this and other sessions I have attended, I understand that our loved ones can indeed pop in on us from time to time to see how we are doing. They may even appear to us in our dreams to personally deliver messages. However, what I have learned is that though they are in spirit form, they are no more powerful than they were when they were alive. In other words: they are no more powerful than we are. Granted, they can step in and intervene on our behalf – but only if we give our consent for them to do so. Ironically, many people don’t realize that the true power to create what we want in our lives begins with and resides within us.

After everything is said and done, it is up to us to make our own choices. You can listen to other people – alive or dead – or you can rely on your own natural, powerful inner wisdom. It always leads you to the right people, places and circumstances every time, guaranteed.

What do you have to lose?

Change your thought, change your future

Caribbean shack-style home

Download the entire story (PDF)

Throughout my lifetime, I have always called upon a certain power to help me whenever I needed it. Over time, I have come to know and understand this power to the point were I have been able to attract right into my life many things that I wanted, some of which include: money, numerous job opportunities, hosting a local television program, a two week trip to Europe, a five figure consulting contract,  a butter-coloured leather couch set, the home of my dreams, a free car…I tell you this not to impress you, but rather to impress upon you the fact that you have the very same ability to attract right into your life whatever it is that you truly want.

Looking back now, I would say that there were five major events that helped me to understand what this power is, how it works, where it comes from, and how to use it. As you read my story, you may begin to recall past circumstances when your source intuition revealed itself to you. Were you paying attention back then? Are you prepared to do so now? For the sake of brevity, I will share the fifth and final major event that helped me to recognize my own power to create and attract whatever I want in my life.

Major Event #5: The power reveals its source to me again…and this time I pay attention

Home of author's grandmother

Author's maternal grandmother's house in 2010. Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies.

One of my good friends Patrice is a truly gifted intuitive. He has the ability to describe a person’s past, present, and future with surprising accuracy. In fact, when I first met Patrice around 1998, without prompting he was able to accurately describe the first house my maternal grandmother owned on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. That astounded me because back then I did not have any pictures of my grandmother’s first house at all. During my first meeting with Patrice I never mentioned my immediate family’s origins, or their whereabouts, let alone extended family members.

Moreover, my grandmother’s first house wasn’t a typical brick or stucco Caribbean home. In fact, in the 1970s she had vacated an apartment she had rented for years and decided to move onto a piece of land that she had inherited from an aunt.

While she was saving up enough money to purchase building materials for her future home, she was practically living in a Caribbean-style wooden shack that she had had built on the property. Its yard was adorned with dirt, patches of grass here and there, busybody chickens, a few stray dogs running wild in the yard, and a stinky wooden outhouse I couldn’t stomach. Patrice was able to accurately describe to me the shack, the dirt yard with patches of grass, the chickens, the stray dogs, and the stinky outhouse.

I was now convinced that Patrice was able to see, do, and know anything. Since I wanted to know for certain that I was doing the right things in my career, I began to consult with him about everything. Should I attempt to go after this business opportunity or that one? Should I work with this person or that one? What did he foresee happening in my career over the next few months? Were things going to get better or worse? I was practically like a psychic hotline junkie – addicted to having to know how things were going to turn out. However, one day Patrice told me something that stopped me cold in my tracks.

Why struggle? Attract the Big Love you want (Part 2)

Why struggle? Attract the Big Love you wantRead Part 1

Several days after our coaching session Collete called me back. She was very calm.

“You know, after our last session I was really worried about what I would say and do the next time I saw Sebastian. When I spoke with you he was out of town at a conference. He had given me his keys so that I could let myself into his apartment and water his plants. As soon as he came back into town I knew he would come straight over to collect his keys. I knew I’d have to face him then.”

“What did you do?” I asked her.

“I was so nervous and scared, but I knew that I had to say something to him. I kept reminding myself that I had to speak my truth – even if it was just for me.”

“Go on.” I urged.

“I rehearsed what I was going to say to him, but for some reason as soon as I saw him, my mind went blank. That’s when I remembered to speak from my heart.”

“Good for you!”

“I told him that I had something to tell him, but that I didn’t need him to say anything. I just needed him to listen. I told him that I couldn’t pretend that we were casually dating, because my feelings ran deeper. I told him that I thought I loved him – and that scared me – but that is what I felt. I also told him that I sensed that he loved me too and that I think he was also still in love with his ex-girlfriend.”

“Wow, that is quite a declaration!”

“I know! I am really proud of myself for it. I told him that the reason why I thought that was because I got the feeling that in his past relationships he would blame himself when the relationships didn’t work out and take on that responsibility. It seemed to me that he still loved her partially because he couldn’t let go; he was taking on too much responsibility for the relationship.”

“Oh boy, ” I thought to myself “this train has the potential to jump the tracks at any moment. There is always a risk when you share with another person your interpretation of their action or behaviour. But then again, she is speaking her truth…”

“He didn’t say anything right away. Then, when I finally got the courage to look at him I noticed he was very red. A few tears rolled down his cheeks. He tried to hide them at first, but then he just let himself go. He came over and hugged me for a long time and told me that he couldn’t believe I said all of those things to him. He said up until that point he didn’t realize how much he was holding inside. He also said something I never expected.”

“What was that?” I asked.

“He said that a while back he was speaking with his sister about his relationships. He knew that he had a tendency to date women who were more dependent, somewhat helpless – and he also knew that these relationships didn’t satisfy him, but he didn’t know what to do about it. He asked his sister, who is in a very stable, happy, loving relationship how he would know when the right relationship would come along.”

“What did she say?”

“She said: ‘You will recognize the right person for you when they show you who you really are.’ He said that is exactly what I did for him. I was speechless.”

“So what does this mean for your relationship?”

“You know, I have no idea,” she said softly. “I have no doubt that Sebastian meant what he said. I also know that he has a tendency to flip flop and change his mind. He could change his mind tomorrow and there’s nothing I could do about it.”

“So what do you want to do next? How will you resolve this issue for yourself?”

“It’s funny. I feel in my heart that I want to be with Sebastian, although I don’t really know what’s going to happen. I also know what I want in a relationship; I am very clear about that. So I don’t really have an answer. I feel like it’s a day-to-day thing. I notice that when I am clear, focused and grounded, things just seem to work out all around me. I guess I just have to trust that.”

Never were more true words spoken.

Why struggle? Attract the Big Love you want (Part 1)

Why struggle? Attract the Big Love you wantExcerpt: Collette (not her real name) struggles to keep the love that she has – while keeping at bay nagging doubts about her relationship. Discover how she followed her intuition, took action, and ultimately reaped the benefit by following principles related to ‘The Law of Attraction’.

A few days ago I was working with a client I will call Collette. She actually asked me to share her story with you because she felt it could really help other people who may be struggling to get the love they want. In essence, this story is a gift from Collette to you. I have changed the names and some of the details to protect her privacy.

About six months ago Collette started dating a man named Sebastian. Almost as soon as she started dating him, she said that she began to fall in love with him. She was almost certain that he felt the same way about her. There was only one problem: every time she felt they were getting closer he would suddenly make excuses not to see her, stop calling and pull away. She noticed this recurring pattern and felt sick about it. She couldn’t sleep or concentrate for several days and decided to set up a dream coaching session with me to find some measure of relief.

“Every time I ask the universe for love something happens to screw it up,” she said angrily.

“Is that true?” I asked. “Your universe responds to you every time you ask, so what did you ask for this time?”

“I asked for Big Love. I decided that I was ready for it and that’s what I wanted with Sebastian. I wanted someone who I knew would be loyal and true to me; someone who would be there for me in good times and in bad.”

“What happened?”

“Well, we were supposed to go away for the weekend and he kept changing his mind about it. When I questioned him about it he eventually told me that he was still seeing his ex-girlfriend. I was heartbroken. What’s worse is that when he told me about his ex, he blamed me for it! He said: ‘I don’t understand. When we first started going out I told you about my situation. You knew about it. Why are you making such a big deal about this?’” She began to cry.

“Hmmm. What a lovely story. You must be happy about this!” I told her.

Happy? No! I just told you, I found out he was seeing his ex. I was tempted to break up with him on the spot. Ever since we started dating I had a feeling about him,” she said bitterly. “There were things I knew I should ask him, but for some reason I kept holding back. I didn’t want to put any kind of pressure on him, especially so early in the relationship.”

“Then why did you continue to see him?” I asked. “What did you tell yourself that made it okay for you to keep dating him?”

She took a deep breath. “Well,” she said thoughtfully “I knew that he was probably not ready to get serious, so I decided to give him some space. But I always had that nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach.”

“What did you do about that nagging feeling?”

Enter the dragon…(Part 2)

Chinese Zodiac Dragon

Chinese Zodiac Dragon

Over the past three days I have been attending a powerful and effective coach training program in Calgary, Alberta Canada. At the outset of the program the facilitators encouraged each participant to introduce themselves, in part by identifying which animal or totem animal they felt most embodied their nature. I was intrigued. I knew the power of totem animals and was curious to see what each coach had to say. As it turns out, over the course of the training program 3 interesting events took place.

The first thing that happened had to do with totem animals. During the introductory exercise several animals popped up: a raven, wild horse, hyena, bull, dog, deer, bald eagle, fox, rainbow trout and sturgeon. One participant thought that her totem animal was a rabbit, but she really wanted to be a dragon. She explained that it was her birthday that day and the dragon not only represented some of the characteristics she wanted to embody, it also represented the animal of her Chinese zodiac sign.

Interestingly enough, at the end of the first day of training, one of the program facilitators  and the aforementioned participant masterfully demonstrated a unique technique called “Body Sensing”. It enables anyone who needs to manage, lead, mentor or coach another person to bypass the conscious mind and focus instead on the physical body at that moment. By tapping into the sensations of one’s own body the chatter and “stories” of the mind and ego subside. In it’s place, each individual is free to tap into their own inner wisdom. Properly executed, this technique has the potential to allow any person to take their management, leadership, mentoring, coaching, training and facilitation skills to a much deeper level.

At the conclusion of the Body Sensing skills demonstration the participant simply glowed. She said that as a result of the exercise she felt an extreme feeling of peace of mind and strength. In fact, she said she felt less like a rabbit and more like a dragon. The entire group broke into laughter.

The next morning before class got underway, the same participant shared something with me that made my jaw drop. I encouraged her to share it with the rest of the group because it was so powerful. The night before, her family had taken her out to dinner to celebrate her birthday. One of her sons couldn’t attend the celebration because he was working overseas so he sent a birthday gift to his mother in the mail. At the dinner table, happily surrounded by her family she opened all of her gifts. As she opened her son’s present and removed the wrapping she gasped in surprise: she reached into the package with one hand and delicately pulled out a dragon figurine – a tantric one at that!

Enter the dragon…

Whether she realized it or not, for the rest of the program the participant exuded more power and force. Several other program participants noticed and commented on it as well.

The second thing that happened also related to totem animals. On the third and final day of training another participant shared with the group that at lunch time she decided to go outside to get some fresh air. She took a solitary stroll on a nature path beside the training facility. While outside, she said a quick prayer and sent out a wish to the universe to see some wildlife. Several moments later she came within a foot or two of a mother deer with her two fawns. The ”coincidence” was unmistakable: the deer is her totem animal.

Creative Whack Pack

Roger von Oeck's Creative Whack Pack

The third and final thing that took place relates to the subtle ways your intuition, your source, your universe speaks to you. At the back of the classroom, the facilitators left several decks of cards with inspirational sayings on them.

One of the decks was very colourful and drew my attention. It was called: Roger von Oeck’s Creative Whack Pack. The cards were designed to jog your creative juices when you select one for inspiration. I casually selected a random card from the deck, mostly out of curiosity. It read (no joke; I do have a witness who can confirm this fact):

12. Listen to your dreams…

But enough about me, some of the people I have had the pleasure of meeting, and our experiences. What about you? Your source, your universe, your intuition speaks to you every day in many significant and insignificant ways. Are you paying attention to the cues?

Enter the dragon…(Part 1)

Chinese Zodiac Dragon

Chinese Zodiac Dragon

A few years ago I went to see a gifted alternative health care practitioner named Julie for a totem animal reading. During the reading she identifies your totem animal, the characteristics of the animal that you either embody or are working to develop, the significance of the animal in your life, and using intuitive abilities, she also relates what she sees in any visions she may receive about the way in which your totem animal influences your life.  I had several totems. Julie saw that I had lost one of them in childhood and encouraged me to reclaim that lost part of myself. Today, her words still inspire me.

Julie told told me that usually, when your totem animal is revealed to you it would appear to you within 24 to 48 hours to signify its presence in your life. Given that my totem animal was a wolf, and I lived in a city (Ottawa, Ontario Canada), while I believed in Julie’s abilities I was more than a little skeptical about the animal’s appearance.

The next day, as I was going home from work I was lost in thought as I was crossing the Statistics Canada federal government department parking lot which faced my apartment building on Parkdale Avenue. Without warning, I was suddenly snapped out of my reverie back into reality. I smiled in a state of semi-disbelief and my knees went a little weak.

Back then, my favourite car on the road was the Audi A4. I had test-driven one several weeks earlier and had admired its handling and performance. Right there, parked in front of me was a gleaming silver grey Audi A4 – exactly the same year of the car that I test drove. It’s license plate read: WOLFF. The significance was not lost on me, though I told no one about it.

Later that same year, my father gave my brother, sister and I framed artwork  for Christmas from an artist whose talent we had all admired. My sister received the image of an African princess; I don’t recall what image my brother received, and I received the image of a native woman with a wolf at her side. There are no coincidences…

What’s the matter; you don’t recognize God?

Creative Mind

Creative Mind book, author Ernest Shurtleff Holmes

Click on the arrow or link below.
MP3 run time approx. 4 mins 12 secs

Back in February 2009 I was feeling invincible. I think it is because the previous weekend my sister read to me excerpts from an iPhone application/book she was reading called “Creative Mind” by Ernest Shurtleff Holmes. The book said one thing that really resonated with me:

“I am God”

In the past, I had always thought of God, angels, my guardian angel & spirit guides as entities outside of me that existed to help me. I saw them as being more powerful than me, more wise. I thought that they would give me the things that I wanted if I worked with them in the right way, if I asked them in the right way and did the right things – according to the right steps or formula.

Ernest Shurtleff Holmes’ book set that thinking on its ear for once and for all. I finally understood that in an effort to know itself, I am an individualization of God. I was created with the same power as my source (God/Goddess/All there is/universe/infinite spirit – call it what you will) to use and to create according to my free will. Some religious people may call that sacrilege; so be it. Their thinking that does not prevent me from tapping into the divine power that I have been given to use and enjoy. When I do, I create more in the universe than that which was there before. And through this, the world/my source/the universe/God/Goddess/All that is  etc. has new experiences to enjoy. It is good!

Over the past few days I have been mulling over this “I am God” thing, getting used to it, trying to understand, know and live it. This new thinking was a big leap of faith for me. Two days after learning this, I decided to test it out. I had purchased an audio CD from a well known metaphysical (New Age) author at a bookstore. However, when I listened to the audio CD I was really disappointed.

The author, a well-respected practitioner in her field was supposed to be talking about how to create the thing we want in our lives – a subject that always draws my attention. Instead, she sounded angry, disdainful at all of the people who weren’t acting the way she thought they should, and she sounded disorganized. In my opinion, she seemed to ramble on without highlighting any major points.

By the time I reached the second audio CD I had had enough. I decided to return the CD to the bookstore. I checked the purchase receipt to confirm that I could. Although the receipt confirmed this, I felt uncertain. I remember trying to return an audio CD to the same store a year or two earlier without success. I decided that now was the perfect time to test out the “I am God” theory. I decided: “If I am God, then the bookstore will let me exchange the audio CD or refund my money. After all, surely God should be able to exchange or refund merchandise, right?”

When I got to the counter it was as I had suspected: the cashier said: “No, you can’t exchange audio CDs or DVDs that are opened.”

“But” I countered “that’s not what it says on the receipt. It says “…refund or exchange within 14 days.”

“Hold on a second” she said unconvinced “I’ll call a supervisor to the cash” (‘just to humour you’ – is what her tone was telling me ).

A young woman with dyed black hair sauntered over without so much as casting a glance in my direction. She picked up the returned CD package with chipped black nailpolished hands, opened it and inspected it carefully to ensure that all of the contents were there.

I held my breath and said nothing.

“Yep” she said to the cashier “it’s okay.”  The supervisor lackadaisically walked away.

The cashier looked surprised. “You are lucky” she said to me “you just happened to get the right person. Another supervisor would have refused the return. I see it all the time.”

I smiled – more for my benefit than for hers. “That’s because” I thought to myself “I am God.”

“What’s the matter? You don’t recognize God when she walks up to the counter?”
